Merlins Bridge Railway Bridge

Pembroke Road railway bridge replacement in Haverfordwest to be completed this weekend

Residents are reminded that essential work to replace Pembroke Road railway bridge will be completed this weekend.

As part of the £4.25m upgrade project, over the weekend engineers will remove the existing rail track and bridge deck, which has been in place since 1937. The team will then fit a new, more resilient bridge structure and reinstate the track, as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan to improve the reliability of the railway.

To ensure teams can deliver the work as efficiently and as safely as possible, part of Pembroke Road will require a short, temporary closure between the railway bridge and Merlins Bridge Welfare Hall.

The road will be closed to through traffic and pedestrians from 8pm on Friday 18 January 2019 until 6am on Monday 21 January.  Clay Lane will also be temporarily closed to all through traffic during this time.

Heating oil syndicate

Would you be interested in joining a Hook heating oil syndicate?

There could be big savings to be made by joining up to form a group and ordering oil together to get a better price.

At today’s prices there would be a big saving with customers paying 49.8p per litre compared to 56.2p per litre on a 500 litre delivery

The oil market is a very volatile and prices change daily but this gives you an idea of the savings that could be made.

For the reduced price to kick in we would need to be able to order 4000+ litres at once this could be made up of 4 x 1000 litre orders or 8 x 500 litre orders it wouldn’t matter (please note 500 litres is the minimum delivery amount)

If you are interested and for more information please let me know at phil.griffiths@hookvillage.org

Hook Remembrance Service

This year sees the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War and we invite you all to attend our Remembrance Service which will be held at the Hook Miners Memorial Garden on Sunday 11th November with the service starting at 10:45am.

As in previous years the service will consist of a couple of readings and a prayer before the playing of the last post.

This will be followed by the laying of the wreaths by organisations, groups and families in remembrance of those who lost their lives.

Following the service there will be light refreshments in the club served by members of the Hook Forum.

Also on display in the club will be a collection of works created by local members of Hook Art Club.

We hope to see you all there

Village Plan

Flyers have now been produced for the upcoming Village well-being plan which is being drawn up with the help of Planed.

Flyers will be delivered door to door this week throughout the village.

This is a fantastic opportunity to come along and voice your thoughts and ideas on what you would like to see in the village of Hook.

All ideas will be taken away and investigated before a village plan of aims and projects will be drawn up.

So if there is anything you would like to see in the village then please come along and let us know.

Our hope is that some ideas will be quickly adopted and up and running whilst any major projects and long term goals can be set as future targets.

So please come along and help shape the future of our wonderful village.

Fantastic turnout for Sunset Cinema

Last Friday saw Sunset Cinema return to Hook with a screening of The Greatest Showman. After the original date had to be postponed due to high winds all fingers were crossed that the weather would be on our side this time.

The rain stayed away and the wind dropped on what turned out to be a fabulous evening. Over 400 people attended on the evening, almost doubling last year’s turnout, and with an outside bar, a burger stall and a popcorn and candy floss stall everybody seemed to thoroughly enjoy the evening. There have been lots of great comments posted all over Facebook and Twitter as well as numerous photos from the evening.

We are still to get a final total but somewhere in the region of £1000 will be going towards refurbishment of the play park in the village. A massive thanks to all who helped out setting up, manning the stalls, stewarding and clearing up afterwards. We would also like to thank all the staff from the Torch Theatre who did a fantastic job once again and also Matthew from the Cottage Inn Llangwm for the loan of the popcorn and candy floss machines.

We are already in talks with the Torch Theatre over next year’s Sunset Cinema and Hook is now definitely on the sunset cinema map.

Hook Village Plan

Hook Community Council are pleased to be working again with PLANED on the Hook Village Plan.

We have arranged an initial meeting at Hook Sports & Social Club for Wednesday 10th October 2018 at 6:00pm.

The purpose of the evening is for residents to put forward ideas of what they would like to see in the village. All thoughts and ideas are welcome whether it be a fantastic new multi purpose play park or a few  daffodils to brighten up the village.

It is important that we get as many different views and ideas from as many villagers as possible so that PLANED can collate the information gathered before working with us on our updated Hook village plan.

Obviously we won’t be able to guarantee that all ideas will be implemented but we can prioritise what the village feels is needed most and set our targets from there.

This is a great opportunity to get your voice heard and we hope to see as many as possible attend.

There will be snacks and light refreshments provided free on the night
